Vitiligo is an autoimmune skin condition, the exact causes of which are not known. It can occur at any age but most often occurs in people 10-30 years old, affects men and women and manifests itself by the appearance of white spots and plaques in various parts of the body, such as the hands, feet, armpits, around the mouth, eyes and genitals, as well as in signs of minor injuries or sunburn. The condition is not fully curable at present, but there are treatments available that may be useful in treating it. All vitiligo patients should always protect their skin from sunlight, avoiding excessive exposure to it and always wearing protective clothing. Daily use of sun protection is essential.
